Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai
Prolific and versatile Japanese director Takashi Miike returns with another remake of a classic. Out of desperation a Samurai pretends to commit the suicide ritual with devastating consequences. After the smashing "13 Assassins," Miike fails to bring the same magic to the masterpiece by Masaki Kobayashi. It's a rather dull remake in pointless 3D which diminishes the power of the story. It's a misguided film on several levels, specially coming from Miike. The talented cast and crew can't save the film either. 1001-Films' coverage of the 64th Festival de Cannes.
