Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans

German director Werner Herzog delivers his best feature in decades with this outstanding re-interpretation of a previous character based Abel Ferrara's "Bad Lieutenant." Herzog only takes the basic premise to makes an entirely original and satisfying film that succeeds on several levels. Nicolas Cage delivers as the title character who fights his personal demons while trying to solve a homicide case in shocking and hilarious ways. Writer William Finkelstein hits all the right notes with his sharp script that allows Herzog to shine along with his cast and crew that includes outstanding work by cinematographer Peter Zeitlinger and composer Mark Isham amongst others. New Orleans is the perfect location above and beyond that brings additional depth to the story. YRCinema's coverage of films on DVD.
