Night Catches Us

Writer and director Tanya Hamilton makes her feature debut with this ambitious attempt about a generation that has been affected by the 60's Black Power movement in this period film. A former Black Panther member returns to his home town where he's considered a traitor to confront his past and the woman responsible for everything. The problem lies with Hamilton trying to address several issues at once that brings down the film. Instead of focusing on the main characters at the center of the story, she tries to show the bigger picture with too many characters. Kerry Washington and Anthony Mackie are outstanding as the leads but are limited by the script limitations. YRCinema's coverage of the San Francisco International Film Festival.
