Blue Valentine

American writer and director Derek Cianfrance makes a heartbreaking film about love from inception to its demise thanks to riveting performance by Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. The non linear story shows how Dean and Cindy fall in and out of love through years. At first when they meet their past and social background doesn't seem important to them. However when they start a family, those ignored issues resurface as their love fades mostly because Dean fails to live up to Cindy's expectations and he's happy with what he has got. Cianfrance smart script works wonders because its raw emotional honesty that takes a pessimistic look at love and how it's destined to failure. Gosling and Williams phenomenal performances take the film to glorious heights. YRCinema's coverage of films at the 63rd Festival de Cannes.
