The Source

Romanian writer and director Radu Mihaileanu delivers a well intentioned but misguided film with this political fable. The women in a fictional village go on a sex strike in order to force their men to fetch water from the source which starts a battle of sexes. Mihaileanu's fable set outside his own culture has several problems despite an earnest ambition for peace and understanding. The main problem lies in the script that's all over the place which even the talented cast including Leïla Bekhti, Saleh Bakri, Hafsia Herzi and Hiam Abbass can't save. 1001-Films' coverage of the 64th Festival de Cannes.
