Thumbsucker

Writer and director Mike Mills made his feature debut with this thought provoking coming of age drama. His thump addiction is the tip of the iceberg for a teenager trying to come to terms with the people around him, even if he has to seek the help of drugs, both the legal and illegal kinds. Based on the novel by Walter Kirn, Mills made a relevant portrait of the problems and pressures teenagers face in order to find their place in the society which includes the shortcomings of parents and schools. Mills assembled a terrific ensemble cast including producer Tilda Swinton, Vincent D'Onofrio, Keanu Reeves, Vince Vaughn and Benjamin Bratt around Lou Taylor Pucci who shines in the lead.
