Beasts of the Southern Wild
Writer and director Benh Zeitlin made his feature with this powerful fable infused drama. A little girl living with her dad in the wild out of reach of society believing to exit in a magical and mythical world full of wonder. Zeitlin's vision is utterly original by looking at characters beyond the margins of society with awe and wonder that's transcending to a new level. While its themes of poverty and abuse are real, it's done in a way never seen before on screen. Youngster Quvenzhané Wallis gives a tremendously moving performance in her feature debut which is quite an accomplishment given she's in almost every scene. 1001 Films' coverage of the 65th Festival de Cannes.
