Circus Columbia
Bosnian writer and director Danis Tanovic returns with another satire about the pre-war Balkans. After the fall of Communism, a man returns to his hometown in the hopes for a better life but finds a volatile environment where tensions are on the rise before the inevitable war. Tanovic shows the complexity of the people and their deeply rooted aversion to each other that could explain the insanity of the war that followed. While the film has a lighter tone with plenty of humor that plays on stereotypes, it has a sinister feeling given what followed. Miki Manojlovic stars along with Mira Furlan and Boris Ler as his estranged wife and son. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
