One Day
Danish director Lone Scherfig followed her international breakthrough "An Education" with this bittersweet love story. A couple of different backgrounds ignore their mutual attraction but meet once a year for two decades to check on each other as they experience the ups and downs of life until they realize their love. Writer David Nicholls adapted his own novel which lacks credibility but works fine on screen thanks to the direction of Scherfig and the talented cast and crew. Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess deliver pitch-perfect performances which makes the film work and then some. The solid supporting cast includes Patricia Clarkson and Romola Garai. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
