Confession of a Child of the Century
French writer and director Sylvie Verheyde makes her English language debut with this adaptation of the novel by Alfred de Musset. Following the end of the Napoleonic Wars, a French nobleman falls into depression and debauchery when he's betrayed by the woman he loved until he meets a beautiful widow. Verheyde manages the language transition but there's nothing groundbreaking in its approach except for the casting of rock star Pete Doherty in the lead. The supporting cast includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, August Diehl and Lily Cole. 1001 Films' coverage of the 65th Festival de Cannes.
