The Repentant
French-Algerian writer and director Merzak Allouache delivers a powerful film with this drama. A young Jihadist returns to his village but his past forces him to move to the city in the hope for a new beginning. Allouache shows how the fabric of society is damaged through the vicious cycle of violence without much hope for those caught in it. Merzak and his talented cast and crew gives a rare insight into contemporary Algeria. 1001 Films' coverage of the 65th Festival de Cannes.
