The Paperboy
Director Lee Daniels gets down and dirty with an extra dose of sleaze for his third feature with an all star cast. A young man falls in love while following his reporter brother investigating a case of judicial misconduct on behalf of a sexpot who has a fetish for prison inmates. Based on the novel by Peter Dexter, Daniels infused the convoluted story with the Civil Rights movement that hits some notes while missing others. The stylized look along with a fearless performances by Nicole Kidman makes for an entertaining film with a talented cast that includes Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack and Macy Gray with solid performances amongst others. 1001 Films' coverage of the 65th Festival de Cannes.
